This was a card for my niece's high school graduation. I applied the layer of gesso to Whisper White CS and let dry. Then added variety of paints, stains and reinkers to craft mat and swished the gesso covered CS into the craft mat. Inked only portions of Chevron BS in Smoky Slate and stamped; inked script from French Foliage in Crumb Cake and stamped. Added some crackle paste over the chicken wire template in a few areas.

Stamped the flowers in craft white on black CS and colored in various areas with pink watercolor pencils (wet tip of pencil first before coloring). Cut Smoky Slate with Labels Twenty Three die; stamped with background from You've got This in Smoky Slate and inked edges with Basic Gray.

Distressed edges of front panel and mat panel and inked edges.

You Make Me Smile

Another card inpsired by Julie's Gearinger's mixed media techniques. Start with Whisper White panel and coat with white Gesso. Add Tim Holtz distress stains and SU reinker drops in desired colors on craft mat - spritz with water then place panel on top and squish around until desired color is achieved.

After dry, stamp floral images in Memento Tuxedo Black and color some with water color pencils. Ad crackle paste using TCW chicken wire template. Add more sponging, white high dots, color as desired.

Stamps used: Forever Florals, Butterfly Basics. You make me smile is from an old 2003 SU set.

Mixed Media Birthday

  • STAMPS: Elements of Style, Bloom With Hope (sentiment), En Francais, Gorgeous Grunge
  • CARDSTOCK: Pretty in Pink, Brown Sugar, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
  • INK: Tuxedo Black Memento, Chery Cobbler, Espresso, Brown Sugar, Craft White
  • ACCESSORIES: Square Lattice EF, Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon, Vintage Brad, Jewels Basic Pearl, Lace Trim, misc. reinkers, sponge daubers.  Not SU: Gesso, Crackle Paste, TCW chicken wire 6x6 template, watercolor pencils, edge distress tool, White Faber-Castell PITT pen.

This card was completely inspired by Julie Gearinger and her mixed media technique. her post on pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/346284658824815500/

I have never done a mixed media card. I began (after reading Julie's blog instructions) by spreading a layer of white gesso on whisper white cardstock. Spritzed a few Tim Holtz distress sprays and a few drops of SU reinkers on a craft mat then spritzed with water - laid the dried gesso coated cardstock on top and moved around to get the various coloring.

After that layer dried I stamped portions of the En Francais background stamp in Espresso; added some crackle paste using the chicken wire template. Stamped the flower in Tuxedo Black and colored with watercolor pencils. Added some white with the White Faber-Castell PITT pen. Sponged some color on top of the crackle chicken wire (use heat gun to dry it more quickly).

Added a bit more distress with Gorgeous Grunge background stamps in White and Brown Sugar. Tore, distressed and sponged edges of front panel, and Pretty in Pink panel embossed with square lattice.

Wow, this was fun and I spent hours without even knowing it! Thanks for the inspiration Julie :)
